Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style Recipe
An easy and delicious way to recreate your favorite Greek restaurant dish at home. This Mediterranean-flavored recipe can be served buffet-style allowing your guests to make their own.
This traditional Greek dish made by grilling marinated chicken and piling it into warm pita bread with yogurt sauce, vegetables, and feta cheese.
We loved this recipe! It's a Friday night tradition for my husband and I to go to our favorite Greek joint and have gyros, but freezing temps this evening so I decided to make these at home. Delicious! The sauce was excellent, I would recommend adding more lemon, greek seasoning, and dill. I doubled the garlic as well. I used 2/3 cup balsamic and 1/3 cup olive oil in place of the vinegrette. No grilling tonight, so I baked the chicken with some marinade for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Perfect! Thanks for sharing.
I only made the cucumber sauce from this recipe. It was excellent - I've been trying to make Tzatziki forever and this recipe was just what I was looking for.
Chicken souvlaki is another word for seasoned Greek kabobs and they make a nice appetizer when dipped into homemade tzatziki sauce.
This is a fantastic recipe! We really enjoy a great local greek restaurant, but with 5 mouths to feed, going out gets expensive. This is as close to the real greek restaurant as you can get. Thanks so much for sharing. Followed exacctly as recipe reads and making tonight for the 3rd time! Delicious!
I followed the directions almost exactly, and even though at first it looked like there were a ton of ingredients, I had most of them on hand and it was very easy to prepare. The only change I made was to use a combo of dried oregano, basil, and parsley instead of the Greek seasoning (they didn't have any at the store). I marinated the chicken for 8 hours, but I the flavor of the marinade did not really come though on the grill, so next time I think I'll cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and bake it in the marinade to get it juicier and more flavorful. The Tzatziki sauce was very good in flavor but a bit too thick for my preference (probably because I used nonfat plain Greek yogurt) so I thinned it with a couple of splashes of milk. Excellent meal, served along with some baked fries, and I liked it so much I'm thinking about serving it for my next party (but with the chicken baked in the marinade!).
